The focus is on making the naming scheme similar to Intel Core Ultra with three digits at the end, but also shoving AI in there for good measure. Reply

The sad part is, this is an improvement to what they were using before. Reply

no it isnt, the zen arch generation is now missing, it's back to arbitrary numbers unless they make sure to never mix gens or rebrands

why do people keep claiming the old name is hard just because a couple numbers swap position and youtubers over explained with the wheel

Another bad thing here is the "HX" being used for the mainstream mobile die again. They did it with Rembrandt, switched it to Dragon Range (desktop silicon) instead of Phoenix, matching Intel's HX desktop silicon convention, and now it's on Strix Point. I wonder what Fire Range or Strix Halo will be called.

Ryzen 9 170... will there be a 180 or 190? 5.1 GHz turbo is a slight regression from 7940/8945HS, and 170 seems like it should be w/ Ryzen 7. Not a big deal but interesting. These could be on the same or a slightly better TSMC 4nm node.

Cache is confirmed 24 MB L3 (+1 MB L2 per core for 36 MB marketing total). Unfortunately L3 will likely be split by CCX into 16+8 so no actual gain for the fast cores.

I somehow doubt we'll get to see a Zen2/3/4 chip using Ryzen AI branding.
It wouldn't make sense to redesign all the older silicon when you can create a new, more premium, brand with a clean slate.

Are they really putting "AI" in the branding?

    🤦‍♂️

So, it appears we can derive 12 cores per CCX, which means a high-end desktop part of 24 cores. It's safe to assume high-end laptop will also get the 24-core part, since this 12-core is offered in a vivobook and replaces the 7940HS, which is 8 cores, but we have 16-cores available in high-end laptop.

As for the speed, 5.1ghz is slightly lower than zen 4 mobile parts. But since this is a vivobook, it's probably not the "highest budget" part. I think this increases the likelihood of 6ghz single-core desktop skus.
